Class of ’84 takes a trip down memory lane
“From one generation of BHS matrics to another; your adventure is just beginning. Make it count!”

It has been four decades since the Class of 1984 walked the corridors of Benoni High School (BHS) but on February 1 the group of alumni met once more to catch up with their former classmates.
With the sun setting on yet another glorious summer’s day, the 54 former learners gathered at Benoni Northerns Sports Club to reconnect and reminisce about their teenage years.
The event further gained international interest, with seven past learners digitally joining the celebrations from London.

Proudly donning their blazers, the group took a nostalgic walk through their old stomping grounds, followed by a performance by the Benoni High Pipe Band.
“The evening was filled with laughter, storytelling and rekindling of old friendships, which is proof that the bonds formed 40 years ago still remain strong,” said Pam Kendall (née Truter) and her organising team.
“Forty years ago, we walked out of the school gates as the matric Class of 1984, filled with hope, excitement and uncertainty about what the future may hold.
“Now, after reconnecting we look back with gratitude for the lessons learned, the friendships formed and the journey life has taken us on.”

As a message to the matrics of 2025, the group urged learners to embrace the moment, cherish their classmates and step boldly into the future.
“Life will surprise, challenge and reward you in ways you cannot yet imagine,” they said.
“No matter where the road takes you, the foundation you build today will carry you forward.”
