Benonians dominate powerboat grand prix

Bruce Repsold got one over his fellow Benoni pilot and current SA Formula One (F1) Powerboat Racing champion Keagan Frankiewicz to win the St Helena Bay Grand Prix on March 2.
Repsold stormed to victory on the West Coast town after winning all three heats, with Frankiewicz, a two-time national champion, claiming second place overall following two runner-up spots and a fourth place finish in the heats.

Racing in his 2.5L Mercury engine, Frankiewicz clocked the fastest lap of the trials, with Repsold in a 2L engine boat second fastest.
The sprint race later on the day didn’t take place due to strong winds.
Racing in his Wraptors sponsored DAC F1 boat in perfect conditions on March 2, Repsold came out tops and Frankiewicz, who blew his gearbox on his 2.5L engine, settling for the second spot.
Frankiewicz still leads the national F1 championship standings with two races remaining. He will hope to go back to winning ways in the next event in Witbank next month before the final race at the East Rand Speedboat Club at CR Swart Dam on May 31.
