The 13 men who were found mining illegally at the Van Ryn mining site have been charged.

As Operation Vala Mgodi (Close the Holes) continues at the Van Ryn mining site, police recently arrested 13 illegal immigrants who were found with 20 pendukas and 50 steel balls, which are used to break down ores and other materials into finer particles, aiding in the extraction of valuable minerals.

According to SAPS Ekurhuleni District communication officer Captain Nelda Sekgobela, the operation was carried out by SAPS members, the SANDF, EMPD, and other law enforcement agencies to address the scourge of illegal mining in Benoni.
