AfriForum continues making a difference

“Working together, we are able to do so much.”

Motorists making use of Goud Street, Goedeburg, now have 35 fewer potholes to worry about.

While residents enjoyed long leisurely weekends, the team of AfriForum Benoni branch rolled up their sleeves to tackle nagging service delivery concerns.

The Goedeburg community rallied behind the initiative donating 1.9 tons of tar, which saw the AfriForum team working in the dark of night to fill ever-growing potholes.

Clearing of overgrowth in Patten Road, Jatniel, which led to water pooling on the road surface.

“Although not fully rehabilitated the road is now a lot easier to navigate,” said Nadia Olckers, AfriForum’s district co-ordinator for the East Rand.

“Our teams also came to the aid of an unfortunate motorist in Patten Road, Jatniel after his vehicle became stuck in a muddy ditch.”

Following the slippery rescue, teams worked tirelessly to remove overgrowth and rubbish from the trenches, thereafter, filling it with river sand, to prevent similar incidents.

Members of AfriForum Benoni branch came to the rescue of this motorist, after his vehicle got stuck along Patten Road, Jatniel.

Overgrown stormwater drains were also cleared to ensure that pooling water due to the recent high rainfall is effectively drained from the road surface.

Turning their attention to Morehill, the branch rallied their supporters to clear the park on the corner of Norman Street and Jolin Avenue.

Despite the inclement rain, volunteers filled numerous rubbish bags of litter, while others cut the towering grass and pruned nearby trees, thus creating a safe and conducive recreational space for residents.

Whizzing into action, AfriForum Benoni Branch members and volunteers got to work cleaning up a park in Morehill.

“Service delivery backlogs are well documented throughout Benoni, instead of griping and groaning we are committed to taking hands with our community as we endeavour to bring some reprieve,” said Olckers.

“We hope to continue with these and other projects in a sustainable manner thus improving on infrastructure whilst promoting safety and community coercion.”
