Soccer project to help youngsters build careers in football
“Our aim is to provide the players with the highest possible standard of professionalism in soccer."
The Soccerino FC opened its Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) campaign with a 2-1 win against Brakpan Spurs at Willowmoore Park on April 26.
The match coincided with the club’s official launch of a five-year Football Factory Project, which aims to allow young, talented footballers to compete in a professional setting.
While its primary objective is to expose youngsters from the greater Benoni area to opportunities to showcase their talent at the highest level, club president Mntomuhle Mahlangu said they aim to create well-rounded footballers.
“We aim to provide the players with the highest possible standard of professionalism in soccer. With the project, we want to create a pool of young sportsmen into talented, skilful and extraordinary football players,” said Mahlangu.
Since the project was started in January last year, it has grown from a few players to a club that caters for seven divisions – U11, U13, U15, U17, U19, U21 and U23 – that compete in the ELFA.
Mahlangu said this growth underlines their commitment and drive to divert the youth’s attention from activities like substance abuse, which could potentially harm their future.
“The Football Factory Project gives talented footballers a real springboard and a gateway to the prospects of a professional football career,” he said.
The club also launched its new kit for the season before their match.
