Malbroer assault: It’s been a nightmare – Mother of slain son

The matter will resume on May 27.

The death of her son, Brandon Pretorius (27), has been a nightmare for his mother, Lisa Pretorius.

She spoke to the Boksburg Advertiser outside the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court, where two men, aged 30 and 45, reappearance on May 22 regarding Pretorius’ death. They both face murder charges.

Lisa, who could not hold back the tears when she spoke to the Advertiser before the accused appeared, said her son was not a fighter.

“He would always see the positive side. He didn’t fight or drink and was not aggressive. It has been a nightmare since his admission to the hospital. My children are not fighters,” said the bereaved mother.

Lisa added that Pretorius’ one-year-old daughter was his life.

Pretorius was assaulted outside the Malbroer bar and grill on North Rand Road on April 25 and then allegedly followed on his way home and attacked again. He died in hospital on May 6, a day after his birthday, from his injuries.

During court proceedings, accused one stated in a sworn affidavit that on the night of the incident, Pretorius was intoxicated and walked past them while they sat at the bar. He alleged that Pretorius stole his phone and inappropriately touched his girlfriend.

Accused one further stated he would not interfere with the investigation and would comply with any bail conditions. He also said his family would suffer financially and emotionally if he remained in custody.

Accused two said that his wife is terminally ill with stage four cancer and that he has a minor daughter.

The investigating officer, Sergeant Millicent Tshabalala, testified that the investigation is ongoing and that accused one spoke about the assault on TikTok, even asking how to remove blood from a shoe.

Tshabalala added that one witness pleaded with accused one to stop assaulting Pretorius, to which he allegedly responded that he didn’t mind going to prison for the rest of his life for the sake of his girlfriend.

According to Tshabalala, Pretorius sustained brain damage.
The accused’s bail application will resume on May 27.
