Rynfield Primary School swimmer Ava Bosch has set her sights on representing South Africa at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The 12-year-old Grade Seven learner is fresh from an exceptional performance – winning four golds and silver – at the SA National Junior Age Group Championships at the University of Western Cape, in April.
Bosch clinched the national 200m, 100m, 50m breaststroke and 200m individual medley junior titles, and a silver in the 100m butterfly.
This earned the learner her second Rynfield Primary honours blazer – she received it for the first time last year after making two finals at last year’s junior nationals – and also qualified her for the national short course championships in September.
“It was a big achievement. It means a lot,” she said.
She added, “I’m going to the Olympics in 2028. I’m ready to go. I want to go. That’s my next goal. I’m going to work hard and do all I can to get there.”
Having achieved so much at her age, it would mean the world to Bosch if she could be given an opportunity to showcase her talent at one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
“Every young swimmer wants to go to the Olympics. If you are serious about the sport, the next big thing is the Olympics.”

The swimming bug caught Bosch early in her life but it was only after swimming for her school and participating in national events that she realised her potential.
Bosch is not only a star swimmer. She also dabbles in netball and is also an A student with top achiever awards in grades five and six.
While balancing competitive swimming, netball and full-time studying is challenging, she has been able to achieve it because she believes the Lord has blessed her.
“I’m smart. I can grab onto information quickly. There’s a pretty good balance.”
Being the ambassador and continuing her school’s proud legacy in the pool is “huge” for the Rynfield resident.
“I used to go to St Dunstan’s College. We went to a swimming gala one day. We looked over at Rynfield and they were huge. They won everything and had the biggest and best decorations.
“I said to myself, ‘That’s the school I want to go to’. We’ve won the inter-primary championships for the past eight years. It’s huge to support the school,” she said.
