New principal settles at Belvedere

Petersen is ready to propel school to new heights.

With 32 years of experience in the LSEN educational sphere, Renier Petersen will build on Belvedere School’s rich traditions.

Petersen took over the reins of the school, which specialises in learners with special educational needs (LSEN), in April following the retirement of principal Hannes du Plessis.

After completing his military conscription, Petersen enrolled at Goudstad Onderwys Kollege. He specialised in technical subjects, English, Afrikaans, and geography.

“I am passionate about working with my hands; being able to create something is amazing,” he said.

“This has aided me throughout my career. It is a blessing to impart my knowledge to learners who could apply these skills in their future endeavours.”

From LSEN schools such as Elandspark School in Bedfordview, where he honed his skills, and Con Amore School in Kempton Park, where he served as principal, this father of two has now taken his place at the helm of Belvedere.

“Having served as head of department and deputy principal for 14 years at Belvedere, I have the school’s ethos ingrained in my heart,” said Petersen.

“I am fortunate the school built its foundation on a strong mission and vision. I hope to contribute to excellence during my tenure. I want to motivate each learner to unlock their unique potential while striving for personal excellence.”
