Actonville police have launched a manhunt after two men, a local taxi driver and a member of the Benoni Taxi Association, were shot and killed on July 3 on the corner of Dube and Mokoena streets, in Wattville.

According to Actonville SAPS spokesperson Constable Lwazi Dladla, when police arrived at the scene they found two vehicles, a red Toyota Venture and a grey Toyota Corolla branded with the Benoni Taxi Association logo.

“The driver of the Toyota Venture was found lying in the middle of the street near the Corolla, while the driver of the Corolla was discovered dead inside his vehicle,” said Dladla.

“Multiple bullet cartridges were recovered at the scene and the Corolla had visible bullet holes on its right side.”

Although the motive is still under investigation, police suspect the shooting may be related to ongoing taxi violence.

No arrests have been made yet, and two murder dockets have been opened.
