Spurs and Sabres continue positive run in veterans league
Spurs have won two out of two while Sabres have two victories from three matches.
The Actonville Spurs have maintained their unbeaten record, while the Benoni Northerns Sabres won their second successive match in the Eastern Storm Veterans League on July 13.
Spurs crushed Avion by six wickets to make it two wins from two matches, with the Sabres beating Elsburg Eagles by eight wickets for their second win in three games.
Bowling first, Spurs restricted Avion to 143/6. They reached their target within 28 overs, posting 146/4 to keep their clean record.
Himmat Parbhoo top-scored with 28 runs, while Rashad Mia and Mohsin Patel contributed 24 not out and 23, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Sabres’ Eddie Taute led the rout of Elsburg with four wickets as the Eagles were skittled out for 106.
Taute was assisted by JJ Coetzee with three scalps, while Dirk Bloem chipped in with two. Marius Oosthuizen took the other wicket.
In reply, Craig Turton led the scoring charts with 30 runs, which included four boundaries, and Bruce Gilson contributed with 23 off 22.
Johann Nel added a quick-fire 22 off 16, which included four fours and one six.
Sabres posted 109/2 to reach their target with the first ball of the 12th over.
