Harris and Vermaak march to Super 8 doubles final victory

They defeated Steyn Dippenaar and Rynard van der Laan 6-3, 3-6, 10-6

Benonians Jason Harris and Ayrton Vermaak claimed the men’s doubles title at the American Express Ekurhuleni Super 8 finals held at the Gauteng East Tennis Association (GETA) complex on July 17.

Harris and Vermaak defeated Gauteng North’s Steyn Dippenaar and Rynard van der Laan 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in a thrilling match. After splitting the first two sets, the final was decided by a tense tie-break, with Harris and Vermaak edging out their opponents to secure Gauteng East’s only title in the competition.

The women’s doubles champions Charnè Steyn and Ciaran McConnell with runners-up Hana Barjramovic and Megan Fourie.

Juniors

In the 16-and-under boys’ doubles, Jordan James Haynes and Alessio Vigoritti defeated Phillipe de Bruin and Anotipa Chigudu 6-2, 6-3 to claim the title.

The girls’ doubles title went to Limpopo’s Paballo Chuene and Morakane Moloa, who beat Wendy Modiba and Kuhle Langa 7-5, 7-6 (8).

In the girls’ U14 doubles final, Kamogelo Plaatjie and Winnie Masemola triumphed over Deonex Mandtoumbi and Noa Rossouw 6-0, 7-5.

The boys’ U14 doubles final saw Veer Trikamjee and Johan van der Walt defeat Joshua Hoffman and Cruz Newton 6-3, 6-2.

Unathi Gabelane and Tshenolo Letsapa won their match 6-1, 7-5 against Takuto Kasahara and Juday Brasg, while Mianè Swart and Emma van Rooyen beat Karlien Botha and Merize Smit 6-2, 6-1.
