Britz named division two T20 MVP

He scored 495 runs, including two centuries, in eight matches.

Eastern Storm top-order batsman Chris Britz has been named Cricket South Africa (CSA) Division 2 T20 Knockout Challenge player of the year, following a stellar season with the bat.

The 25-year-old right-hander played a pivotal role in guiding Easterns to the final of the competition, where they narrowly lost to KwaZulu-Natal Tuskers at Willowmoore Park in November.

Britz finished as the tournament’s leading run scorer, amassing 495 runs in eight innings at an average of 99.00 and an impressive strike rate of 135.98. His tally included two centuries, cementing his status as a standout performer in the tournament.

He launched his campaign with a blistering 82 off 53 balls in Easterns’ opening match against Northern Cape Heat, helping secure a nail-biting one-run victory. He followed up with scores of 35 against Garden Route Badgers, 28 against Mpumalanga Rhinos, and a commanding 111 off 66 balls to seal a 12-run win over Limpopo.

Further contributions included 48 runs against Eastern Cape Linyathi and 37 in their final round-robin match, a narrow loss to the Tuskers.

Britz’s most crucial innings came in the semi-final, where he blasted 107 off just 59 deliveries, smashing eight fours and six sixes to dismantle the Heat at Willowmoore Park. In the final, his 47-run knock against the Tuskers lifted him to the top of the run-scoring charts and capped off a sensational tournament.

His consistency, power-hitting, and leadership at the top of the order have not only earned him individual recognition but also reinforced his role as a key figure in Easterns’ batting line-up.
