Farrarmere Primary tops Water Week competition

Each participating school received books in which learners coloured the illustrations and completed the activities.

Farrarmere Primary School has been named the overall winner of Oasis Water’s 2025 National Water Week colouring-in competition, receiving a R15 000 prize during a handover held on June 25.

The national competition, designed to raise awareness around water conservation and sustainability, saw participation from primary schools across the country, with over 20 000 activity books distributed to more than 70 regions in South Africa.

The initiative formed part of the company’s comprehensive approach to environmental education during National Water Week, observed from March 20 to 26.

Aimed at learners aged nine to 10, the interactive colouring-in books introduced children to themes such as water conservation, pollution, and sustainable habits in a fun and engaging way.

Each participating school was provided with a bundle of books, in which learners coloured in the illustrations and completed the accompanying activities.

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to get creative and feel proud of their work.

“It’s truly wonderful to see businesses like Oasis getting involved in the community in such a meaningful way. Your support makes a real difference, and initiatives like this one leave a lasting impression on young minds.”

Samantha Cawood, owner of the Benoni Oasis Water franchise, said: “We are so proud of the learner for waving the Benoni flag so high. We are pleased to be in partnership with Farrarmere Primary School in ensuring our children drink the best purified water around.”

The campaign served to promote environmental awareness from a young age, using creative engagement as a way to instill positive habits.

In addition to the national prize, the initiative demonstrated how partnerships between schools and private sector organisations can support educational goals while reinforcing the importance of sustainable living.
