Help Jordan-Scott travel to Italy

“It would make his dream come true."

From a miracle birth to the rugby field, Jordan-Scott Potgieter’s story is one of resilience, faith and raw talent.
The young man, who doctors once doubted would even see the light of day, has now been called up to represent South Africa in Italy after a successful Rhino Week in Vanderbijlpark with the Central Vikings U13 team.

In October 2011, his parents’ world was turned upside down when they were involved in a motorcycle accident. His mother, left paralysed for a while after breaking the first vertebrae in her lower back, was urged to terminate her pregnancy due to the risks.

But she chose faith over fear, holding onto the belief that God had bigger plans for her child. By December that year, she began walking again and later Jordan-Scott entered the world carrying the biblical name of the Jordan River as a symbol of hope and new beginnings.

Now, that hope has transformed into promise on the rugby pitch. Jordan-Scott shone at the Rhino Week in June, where the flanker’s fearless play and skill caught the eyes of selectors.

“My team played well in the competition, and I made valuable contributions throughout the tournament. I really wanted to make the team. This opportunity will allow me to learn as I continue my rugby journey,” he said.

Jordan-Scott’s efforts earned him a place in the South Africa U13 squad, travelling to Italy – a platform that could open even greater opportunities in his blossoming career.

“We are going there with two Springboks who are not only going to teach us the basics, but will also take us through some valuable technical plays we need to improve as players. The experience is going to be massive. I’m looking forward to the trip,” he said.

For the Laerskool Rynfield learner, rugby is more than just a sport. It’s the continuation of a journey that began long before he first held a ball.

How you can help Jordan-Scott get to Italy

To help Jordan-Scott travel to Italy, the family pleads with the community to participate in a golf day on October 9 at Benoni Lake Club to raise funds for the youngster.

“Please join us in supporting our golf day, as we strive to raise funds to send Jordan-Scott to Italy. With every swing and donation, you’ll be transforming his future most remarkably.

“It would make his dream come true because the sacrifices we make as parents ensure that they succeed. My whole mission since July has been to ensure he reaches his potential,” said his mother, Melanie.
