Khalia named Spurs player of the year
Some of his knocks include 125 against CBC Old Boys in February and 174 against Kempton Park in November.
Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s player of the season, Ridwaan Khalia, has his sights on making his debut for the Eastern Storm after steering his side to a third-place finish in the Eastern Premier League last season.
Khalia’s stellar performances earned him the MVP and batsman of the year accolades for the Spurs’ premier league team, an honour he received at the club’s awards ceremony held at Seva Samaj Hall in Actonville on September 20.

“I’m glad Eastern Storm coach Geoffrey Toyana allowed me to play in the internal games. I performed well in a few of them, showing that I can be part of the system. Now, it’s about playing in the academy and proving them right for what they see in me,” said Khalia.
Reflecting on his campaign, which included brilliant knocks of 125 against CBC Old Boys in February and 174 against Kempton Park in November, the wicket-keeper batsman was satisfied with his overall contribution in his first season with the club.

“This was quite a journey for me, coming from Johannesburg to playing for Easterns. I didn’t know what was going to happen during the season. But I told myself to do my best and let God take care of the rest.
“I had work and other things, but came and gave my best on Sundays for the team and to achieve something for myself. I’m glad we finished third, although it’s not what we wanted. This year, we are aiming for a top two finish,” he said.
