AfriForum takes authorities to task about traffic lights

Take the survey and help the organisation strengthen its case.

Despite continually reporting non-functioning traffic lights, such as the intersection of Great North and High roads, AfriForum is now calling on the community to join its fight.

The organisation has launched a survey to determine the severity of faulty traffic lights as well as the impact this has on the safety of commuters.

According to the district co-ordinator for the East Rand, Nadia Olckers, the absence of functional traffic lights is adding to driver frustration and is placing the lives of road users in danger daily.

“AfriForum has reported these intersections to the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), requesting feedback relating to an actionable plan to mitigate the issue; however, no answers were received by the September 30 deadline,” she said.

“Information gathered through the survey will assist in highlighting the ongoing problems, especially affecting main arterial routes leading towards the N17 and R21, proving that the ongoing problems are not isolated and that it has a negative impact on the entire city.”

Olckers continues by saying that collected data will enable the civil organisation to take further action to apply pressure on the CoE and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to effectively address the matter.

Survey submissions close on November 30.
