Hubbert named GETA player of the year

Connor Hubbert was the big winner at the Gauteng Ekurhuleni Tennis Association (GETA) end-of-year prizegiving, held at the GETA Complex in Lakefield on November 29.

The tennis sensation was named senior sportsperson of the year, capping what has been a standout year. Eli Beharie and Katherine Henderson walked away with the Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Sportsperson of the Year awards.

Emily Breed was named the most improved senior girl, while Seth Masterson won the most dedicated senior player award. Youngster Daniela Munro was named the most improved junior girl, and Sarah Whitehead won the most dedicated player award.

The event also included the capping of players who will represent the region at next month’s Interprovincial Championships.

The juniors (primary schools) tournament will be held at the Free State Stadium tennis courts in Bloemfontein, while the seniors will travel to the Groenkloof Tennis Club in Pretoria for the high schools tournament. Both tournaments start on January 8 and conclude on January 11.

GETA junior tennis chairperson Karen McRae congratulated all the winners and IPT players who received their provincial colours.

“Congratulations to all who have worked hard throughout the year. We are very proud to have you all representing GETA. A massive congrats to the special awards winners for their dedication, attitude, and all-round hard work,” McRae said.
