Fire destroys five diesel tanks at Putfontein depot

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Five diesel tanks, each with a capacity of 4 500 litres, were destroyed in a fire that broke out recently at a fuel depot in Putfontein.

According to Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) media and liaison officer, Maswati Mdluli, crews from the Rynfield Fire Station responded swiftly, supported by firefighters from Farrarmere and the Albertina Sisulu fire stations.

“They brought two major pumpers and two major water tankers to the scene and worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire.

“The initial crew successfully prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, and additional resources that arrived later helped bring the fire under control,” said Mdluli.

Mdluli said the cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire safety officials will investigate the incident to determine what sparked the blaze and will assess the site for compliance with safety regulations.

Residents are reminded that for all life-threatening emergencies, they can contact the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Control Centre on 011 458 0911.
