FOLLOW-UP: Trail against Pheiffer postponed until March
This is the third time since June that the trial has been postponed pending the high court application.
The defence acting on behalf of Christian (Mike) Pheiffer requested another postponement in the trial against their client in the Benoni Regional Court on January 14.
Acting on behalf of Daniel Schoeman of SB Attorneys, Yolandie Borman stated that the outcome of an application brought before the high court is still pending.
The application comes after the testimony of a psychiatrist assigned to Pheiffer during an evaluation at the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.
At the time, it was alleged that Pheiffer was suffering from amnesia and could not recall the details of the incident.
On May 12, Schoeman requested that an order be submitted to the hospital to make all clinical records available to the court.
Magistrate Ian Cox granted the order but ruled that all personal notes made by attending professionals must be excluded.
During the recent sitting Borman indicated that the respondents in the high court application were granted until the end of January to submit an affidavit pertaining to the disclosure.
“Until such time, we request that the matter be postponed,” said Borman.
The magistrate granted the postponement, and the trial will continue on March 24.
Pheiffer is currently out on bail.
He is accused of attacking his then-wife with an axe at their Farrarmere home on September 23, 2021.
He stands accused on a charge of attempted murder.
Pheiffer’s bail was extended until his next appearance.
