Operations will continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS)

From December 31 to January 18, BFS members arrested 15 suspects and recovered two firearms.

Possession of counterfeit goods
While conducting routine patrols along the N12, officers witnessed a 45-year-old woman offloading a suspicious-looking parcel from a taxi.
Upon searching the contents of the parcel, officers discovered counterfeit clothing and shoes valued at R20 000.
The suspect was arrested.

Possession of illicit cigarettes
In the early hours of January 12, patrolling officers spotted two men closing a premises on Sixth Avenue, Northmead.
Upon investigation, the men were found in possession of 230 cartons of illicit cigarettes, with an estimated value of R60 000.
The suspects were arrested, and an additional bribery charge was added after they offered the BFS officers R3 000 in exchange for their freedom.

Attempted robbery
Two men travelling in a black BMW were arrested in Tom Jones Road on January 13, shortly after an attempted robbery at a store in Voortrekker Street.
Following a brief search for the vehicle, the suspects were found parked next to a service station.
Two licensed firearms were found in the suspect’s possession, which will be subjected to forensic testing.

Possession of drugs
Ten suspects, aged 20 to 47, were arrested on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Arrests were made in Emaphupheni, Barcelona, Etwatwa, Brakpan, Kaalfontein, Ivory Park and Actonville.
Meth, heroine, cocaine and Mandrax were recovered.
An additional charge of driving under the influence of alcohol was brought against one of the suspects.

Vehicle recoveries
A tanker reportedly stolen in Nigel was recovered in Heidelberg Road, Tsakane, while a silver Kia Picanto reported as hijacked in Bramley was recovered in Thembisa.

Police Emergency Services (PES)

From January 9 to 15, the Police Emergency Services (PES), including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 92 suspects across Gauteng.

The operation resulted in:
• 36 arrests for serious crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted robbery, contravention of a protection order, bribery, possession of precious metal, possession of illicit cigarettes, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal selling of medicine, attempted murder, domestic violence, tampering with infrastructure, unlawful possession of ammunition, malicious damage to property, intimidation and rape.

• Recovery of 40 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Eight arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• 48 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax, and meth.
