EMPD – Collect impounded vehicles before January 27
Unclaimed vehicles can be sold, and owners must pay all outstanding fees to retrieve them.
The EMPD urges motorists to collect their impounded vehicles before the deadline, January 27.
City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said vehicles unclaimed by that date could be sold or otherwise disposed of.
“These vehicles were impounded for various offences across the metro. Owners or authorised representatives must settle all outstanding fees, including impoundment, towing, storage and administrative costs, before a vehicle can be released.
“Motorists must present proof of ownership, such as vehicle registration documents, a valid ID and an authorisation letter if someone is collecting on the owner’s behalf.”
Unclaimed vehicles can be sold in line with the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996) and Regulation 320 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000, which allow municipalities to sell vehicles unclaimed for more than 120 days.
Boksburg owners can collect their cars from the Boksburg Pound on 43 Reservoir Road.
Other collection points across Ekurhuleni:
• Alberton Pound: 4 Swaartkoppies Road;
• General Alberts Park;
• Kempton Park Pound: Corner of Sarel and Albatross streets, Kempton Park.
The city urges owners to take advantage of the collection period to avoid financial loss.
