Rise of the Empire set to shake Benoni with powerlifting spectacle

The tournament is a qualifier for this year's national championships.

Benoni will become the epicentre of raw strength on February 28 as the region’s top powerlifters descend on Iron Empire Benoni at Old Bens Sports Club for the Rise of the Empire powerlifting and strict arm curl tournament.

With pride, records and reputations on the line, the showdown, which is the second of three qualifiers for this year’s national championships, promises bone-crushing lifts, fierce rivalries and a showcase of Gauteng’s most explosive strength talent.

“It will be a full-power powerlifting competition. It will incorporate all three lifts (squat, bench press, and deadlift),” said organiser Warren Brits.

“We have made all our local competitions lifter-friendly, allowing first-time competitors an opportunity to experience a full or partial meet before purchasing all the necessary clothing and equipment,” Brits added.

Brits stated that at this tournament and the last one on April 18, only affiliated members can qualify for Nationals 2026 or break any national records.
