6 members of suspected burglary syndicate nabbed in Northmead

The alleged king-pin was also arrested.

Six members of a suspected house break-in and vehicle theft syndicate were arrested in Third Avenue, Northmead, on March 12.

According to Clive Patterson, vice-chairperson of the Benoni CPF, a concerned resident sounded the alarm about a suspected vehicle theft taking place at a neighbouring property.

“AAA Security responded followed by patrolling CPF members, as well as Gauteng Traffic officers and Crime Prevention Wardens,” he said.

“Upon arrival it was found that the vehicle, which was parked inside the property, had already been pushed onto the street. Further information indicted that the suspects had also broken into the home and were still inside.”

Two suspects were arrested on the scene with an additional four, including the alleged king-pin, a woman in her later 40’s, shortly thereafter.

The suspects could be linked to a spate of house break-ins and vehicle thefts plaguing Farrarmere and Northmead in recent months.

“We are confident that incidence of crime will significantly decrease following this success,” Patterson said.

“We salute the resident who proactively reported the active crime as well as responding units for their assistance.”

The suspects were detained at the Benoni Police Station.
