BAS swimmers cap season with powerful performances
The swimmers clocked PBs and won medals in various galas held throughout the season.
Boksburg Aquatic Saints (BAS) closed the outdoor swimming season on a high, delivering a wave of standout performances across regional and national championship galas.
The campaign gathered early momentum at the Level 1 Regional Championship at Delville Swimming Pool in Germiston from February 28 to March 1, where eight BAS swimmers combined for 32 personal bests.
Thendo Muthelo led the charge, claiming four bronze medals in the 50m butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, as well as the 100m freestyle.
That upward trajectory continued at the Level 2 Regional Championship from March 29 to April 1, also in Germiston, with six swimmers producing 38 personal bests. The boys’ 15–16 relay team of Kwetsima Khosa, Aiden Els, Thori Ntjepela and Xavier White added silver in the 4x50m medley and bronze in the 4x50m freestyle.

One of the club’s most dominant displays came at the Level 3 Regional Championship in Pretoria in March, where 12 swimmers racked up an impressive 134 personal bests.
Zander Allen spearheaded the effort with two gold medals (50m freestyle and backstroke), two silvers and a bronze. Thabang Letsoalo struck gold in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke, also securing a South African National Junior qualifying time in the latter.
There were further podium finishes from Gabriella Rall, Mary Maponyane, Tetelo Letsoalo, Fatso Moabelo and Megan Els, while the men’s 4x50m freestyle relay team of Tumi Ngomeza, Sameer Abhai, Jordan Ripley and Tetelo added a bronze to the tally.

BAS also made its presence felt on the national stage. At the South African National Open Water Championships in Jeffreys Bay, Kelly Stork showed grit in tough conditions, finishing fourth in the 3km and ninth in the 5km in her age group.
At the South African National Junior Championships in Gqeberha, Cristiano de Freitas and Terrick le Roux combined for 17 personal bests. De Freitas secured silver in the 50m breaststroke, added bronze in the 800m and 1500m freestyle, and achieved two Senior National qualifying times. Le Roux delivered a model of consistency, recording personal bests in all 10 of his events.

Musa Mofokeng added five personal bests at the South African National Youth Championships, while De Freitas continued to impress at his first seniors last month, holding his own against the country’s elite.
The season concluded at the SA Schools Championships (April 24 to 27), where Ngomeza, Boka Mokoena, Tetelo, Maponyane and Rall contributed to Team Gauteng’s gold and bronze relay medals.

The club thanked coaches Carissa van Rooyen and Robert le Roux for their hard work, as well as parents for their unwavering support throughout the season.
“Congratulations to every BAS swimmer on a season that deserves to be celebrated,” BAS said in statement.
