Police recover body from Homestead Dam

It is suspected that the man may have been part of a group of vagrants that live in the area.

Officers of the SAPS Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS) were deployed to Homestead Dam to recover the body of an unidentified man on May 15.

According to WPDS spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the body was found floating in the water near Wilge and Coleridge streets, Farrarmere.

Benoni SAPS Vispol commander Colonel Sinothi Ndaba said an inquest docket is under investigation.

“Due to severe decomposition, initial reports indicate that the body had been in the water for about two weeks,” he said.

“No injuries were noted, and based on the man’s clothing, it is suspected that he may have been part of a group of vagrants that live near the dam wall at the N12 highway.”

Police urge anyone who can assist in identifying the body or who may have more information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS app.
