EMPD crime crackdown in Daveyton
Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
Officers from the EMPD responded to two separate incidents of crime, in Daveyton, resulting in the rescue of a hijacking victim and the arrest of a man found with an unlicensed firearm.
Possession of an unlicensed firearm
On May 26, officers from the EMPD Daveyton Precinct arrested the driver of a white Hyundai hatchback during routine stop-and-search operations.
The 33-year-old Lesotho national was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off, along with 42 rounds of live ammunition.
Hijacking
In a separate incident, on May 28, EMPD Community Liaison Unit officers rescued a 42-year-old man who had allegedly been hijacked in Lobedu Street.
Officers traced the white Isuzu deliver vehicle, near the Daveyton Train Station.
Upon arrival, officers found that the driver was locked inside the canopy compartment, at the back of the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two suspects allegedly robbed the victim and stole the load that he was transporting.
The victim was escorted to Daveyton SAPS to open a hijacking case and receive medical attention.
The recovered vehicle was taken to the Aeroton Pound, no arrests have been made.
