Suspected vehicle theft syndicate’s attempts foiled

It is suspected the suspects are involved in numerous vehicle thefts that have been reported at the sporting facility.

The revving motors of high-performance vehicles were not the only thing that got the adrenaline pumping during the East Rand Motor Show 2026 at Benoni Northers Sports Club on June 7.

Thanks to the quick response of local law enforcement and private security companies, a suspected vehicle theft syndicate, believed to be behind other vehicle thefts at Northerns, was dealt a blow when it attempted to steal two vehicles.

According to the Benoni CPF, security units monitoring the event noticed suspicious movement in the parking area, prompting further investigation.

“The rapid response and cooperation between the various stakeholders resulted in foiling the suspects’ plan and the targeted vehicles being secured,” said CPF spokesperson Ashley McKenzie.

“Despite the suspects fleeing the scene in one of the two vehicles, the remaining vehicle was recovered on the scene.

“Four sets of false registration plates, as well as numerous vehicle computer modules and electronic equipment believed to be linked to vehicle theft activities, were recovered in this vehicle.”
