SAPS successes: Crime in Brief

Operations are continuing in an effort to bring criminals to book

From June 30 to July 5, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) made six arrests.

Possession of drugs

• On June 30, at 08:00, BFS officers spotted a passenger of a white Hyundai H100 being dropped off at the R21/Pomona on-ramp, towards OR Tambo International Airport.
Officers proceeded to conduct a stop-and-search on the passenger, who was carrying a large wrapped parcel.
Investigations led to the discovery of 12 vacuum packed bags of dagga, with an estimated value of R35 000.
The 41-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at the Kempton Park SAPS.

• A 45-year-old man was arrested in Actonville, on July 5, when he was found in possession of meth.

Fraud

Two suspects, aged 32 and 44, wanted in connection with a case of fraud in Krugersdorp, were arrested at the Tom Jones on-ramp, towards the N12 highway, on July 1.
The suspects’ blue Volkswagen Polo was flagged by Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, dotted across the city.
They were detained at the Benoni SAPS awaiting transfer to Krugersdorp.

Possession of coper cables

At 19:00 on July 5, two men, aged 26 and 33 were arrested in Kingsway, on charges of being in possession of suspected stolen copper cables.
While conducting routine patrols, BFS officers saw the men in a nearby veld.
Upon closer inspection officers found the men with a grinder and lengths of cable.
The duo were detained at the Benoni SAPS.
