Cross edges Bailey, Jacobsen in senior ladies golf

She carded 40 points to win the September leg of the ESWG monthly competition.

Lorraine Cross claimed a narrow victory at the Ekurhuleni Senior Ladies Golf (ESWG) monthly competition at State Mines Country Club in Brakpan on Monday (October 5).

Cross carded an impressive 40 points in the IPS competition to take first place on countback, finishing ahead of Terry Bailey and Sandy Jacobsen, who also scored 40 points.

Bailey settled for second, with Jacobsen completing the podium in third.

Runner-up Terry Bailey and ESWG deputy president Judy Coppin.

Doret Lombard and Alta Verster both finished on 39 points, claiming fourth and fifth places respectively.

Julia Huntington and Di Frankleyne also returned 39 points but missed out on prizes after the countback.

The day also featured two nearest-the-pin prizes, with Lynda Joint taking the honours on the eighth hole and Salie Morgan winning the 13th.

Morgan was among the raffle winners, alongside Alfreda Webster.

Thrid-placed Sandy Jacobsenwih Judy Coppin.

ESWG President Charmaine Stone thanked committee members who donated the raffle prizes for the month, as well as State Mines Country Club for its hospitality.
“Well done, ladies. Excellent results,” she said.

The ESWG will host its annual Christmas competition at Lake Club Benoni on November 24.
