Flying squad operation nabs five

Investigation in all cases continue

Routine operations by the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) from July 27 to 29 saw five people, aged between 20 and 41, being arrested and two firearms seized.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson, three suspects were arrested in separate incidents on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
“The arrests were made on Khan and Singh streets in Actonville and High Road, Brakpan,” he said.

“Dagga, Mandrax and heroin were confiscated.”

On July 28 at 02:30 members along with Crime Intelligence followed up on information of firearms being held at a residence in Emphilweni Section, Thembisa.

“Hidden on the property was an R5 rifle with 31 live rounds of ammunition and five hand radios,” said Giblin.

“Unfortunately, no suspects were found at the house. However, no stone will be left unturned in attempting to trace them.”

Two further arrests were made at Mayet and Soma streets, in Actonville on July 29 at 18:40, when members followed up on information of a suspected stolen blue Toyota Corolla seen at the Actonville Hostel.

“The members followed the vehicle and managed to pull it over. They found that the driver was in possession of a .38 revolver with the serial number filed off and three live rounds of ammunition,” he said.

“Further investigations revealed that the vehicle was fitted with false registration plates and was reported as stolen in Primrose.”

Two abandoned vehicles were also recovered during the operation. A white Nissan NP200 was found in Ivory Park Ext Three that was reported as stolen in Norkem Park. The other vehicle was a white Toyota Land Cruiser, recovered in Mocke Street, Chris Hani, Daveyton. It was reported as hijacked in Sinoville.
