The city turns blue during high-density operation

Police presence aimed at fighting crime

Members of the Benoni Police Station’s Vispol unit along with members of the Highway Patrol and CPF patrollers conducted a high-density operation from July 29 to 30.

Northmead, Rynfield, Morehill, Brentwood Park, Farrarmere, Western Extension and Lakefield were among the focus areas with SAPS members aiming to combat and prevent cases of house robberies, theft, possession and dealing in drugs, as well as compliance with liquor outlets.

According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the police station, officers conducted stops and searches, visited ATMs, liquor outlets, malls, hotspot areas and taxi ranks.

“Two arrests were made during the operation,” she said.

“One person was arrested for being in possession of drugs while another was arrested on charges of drinking and driving.

“We aim to regularly roll out operations such as these to send a strong message about our presence and commitment to fighting crime.”
