Routine weekend operations conducted by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) from September 1 to 4 led to the arrest of nine suspects and the recovery of three motor vehicles.
Theft from motor vehicle
On September 1, at 15:00, members responded to a complaint of a laptop stolen from a motor vehicle parked at a centre in Great North Road, Brentwood Park.
The suspect was detained by the complainant and placed under arrest by the responding officers.
Further investigation found that the Toyota Starlet, in which the suspect was travelling, had false registration plates.
The suspect was detained at Benoni SAPS and the vehicle was impounded.
Stolen vehicle recovered
On September 2 at 08:30 BFS members followed up on information of a stolen vehicle spotted in Voslosrus.
The white Kia Cerato was traced to Ext 14 and one suspect was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
This vehicle was allegedly taken during a house robbery in Elsburg.
Theft of truck foiled
In the early hours of September 4, BFS members were patrolling the SAPS Van Rijn Deep pound.
At the site, officers found an idling International truck.
Upon investigation, they found that the ignition had been tampered with and two suspects were hiding in the cab.
Another two suspects were hiding in a white Toyota Hilux, which was parked nearby.
The suspects admitted they intended to steal the truck and upon their arrest offered BFS members R1 000 for their release.
A charge of bribery was added to their charge and the money was booked in as evidence.
Possession of drugs
Three suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs.
The arrests were made at Madelakufa in Thembisa, Ext 15 Ivory Park and Mayibuye in Rabie Ridge.
Crystal meth, Mandrax and cocaine were confiscated.
Abandoned vehicles recovered
A white Volkswagen Polo was found in Miller Street, Aston Manor, Kempton Park. It was reported as stolen in Moffatview.
A bronze Toyota Corolla was recovered in North Rand Road, Boksburg. It was reported as stolen in Boksburg North.
