Local lover of royals pays tribute to the Queen

Glynis said she looks up to the queen as a humble, loving and peaceful person.

Benoni’s resident historian Glynis Cox Millett-Clay is an avid collector of royal memorabilia.

Commenting on the death of Queen Elizabeth yesterday, Glynis said she looks up to the queen as a humble, loving and peaceful person to all people and her family.

“Her promise to God at her coronation in 1953 that she will maintain his laws according to the gospel stands out for me and she lived by that promise for the 70 years of her reign,” said Glynis.

She has lived in Benoni – and been collecting memorabilia – for 40 years, with her ancestral roots going back to London.

“When Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married on July 29, 1981, my sister and I baked and watched the wedding the entire day,” said Glynis, who also didn’t miss the marriage of Prince Harry to American actress Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle.

Glynis thanks her late aunt Dorothy for giving her some royal memorabilia items.

From there, the bug bit and Glynis built on her collection over the years.

“I have been collecting royal memorabilia since I moved to Benoni from Bloemfontein,” she said.

The Farrarmere resident is a collector of plates, magazines, books, tea towels, Jubilee silver, diamond and sapphire coins, badges and a tea caddy, to name a few of the royal merchandise items she takes pride in.

“I have a whole cupboard full!” said Glynis.
