BFS Crime in brief
The suspects aged between 22 and 61 will appeared in local Magistrates courts soon.
Routine operations conducted by the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), from October 14, led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm.
Recovery of unlicensed firearm
On October 14 at 01:00, members were patrolling the Benoni CBD when they pulled over a blue Ford Laser with three occupants, on the corner of Bunyan and Howard streets.
A thorough search was conducted which led to the recovery of an unlicensed 9mm pistol, with serial number filed off and three live rounds of ammunition.
The suspects were arrested and the vehicle impounded.
Recovery of stolen vehicle
BFS members received a call for backup in Brakpan on October 14, at 12:00, after it was alleged that members of the community were in pursuit of stolen vehicle.
According to information, an orange Volkswagen Caddy had been stolen at the Brakpan municipal offices and the message was circulated via a community based radio group.
“An alert member of the community spotted the vehicle and a chase ensued,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.
“The suspect lost control of the vehicle in Wordsworth Street, Brakpan, and jumped out of the vehicle in an attempt to flee.
“He was apprehended and arrested by a BFS member.”
Stolen good recovered
At 14:30, members were patrolling along Tom Jones Street and N12 crossing when a local security company asked for assistance at an accident scene, involving a white Chevrolet Aveo.
“Two of the occupants allegedly fled from the scene, leaving another two still in the vehicle,” said Giblin.
“Upon investigation an invertor charger was found which was allegedly stolen from a local business.
“The unit was identified by the owner and the remaining two suspects were arrested.”
Damage to essential infrastructure
A suspect sought in connection with tampering with essential infrastructure in Daggakraal was arrested in Warbler Street, Crystal Park, on October 14.
Assault
Members arrested one suspect on charges of assault in Etwatwa Extension 12, on October 15.
