Postbox removal causes confusion
Residents said the removal of Actonville postboxes has inconvenienced them
Post Office customers have been left in the dark following the removal of postboxes in Actonville last month.
According to a resident, Yussuf Bhayat, he went to collect his mail sometime in September when he discovered that the boxes were removed.
“With no explanation or warning given, the section of the postboxes was demolished. I went inside the Post Office branch and spoke to a kind employee who took my post box number and cellphone number and notified me when my letters were available,” he said.
Bhayat said he found a number of mail relating to accounts belonging to a lot of people.
“The lack of communication from the Post Office has inconvenienced us. At work, we get our mail from the Post Office. Now that our postboxes have been removed, we don’t know where exactly we should collect our mail,” said Bhayat.
The City Times spoke to a few residents who also shared the same sentiments.
Post Office spokesperson Johan Kruger failed to share details about why the postboxes were moved but said that he will notify the Benoni City Times when a new location is found for the postboxes.
“At the moment, customers who rent a postbox in Actonville can collect their mail from the counters at the Actonville Post Office,” said Kruger.
In March, postboxes at the Rynfield Terrace Post Office were also moved to Isando following the closure of the post office.
The closure of the Rynfield Terrace Post Office left many residents fuming as they complained about the lack of communication.
They shared that they had to dig deeper into their pockets to travel to Isando to get their mail.
