The Daveyton police are beaming with pride following their recognition at this year’s Ekurhuleni District Excellence Awards ceremony held recently at the Tabernacle Church of Christ in Katlehong.
The station was crowned the first runner-up for the award of CPF of the year led by CPF chairperson, Ramoitheki Madikgetla whose work and efforts were recognised.
Madikgetla who has been working at the Daveyton CPF since 2015, said he and his team have taken the responsibility of assisting the community beyond their line of duty.
“I think what sets us apart from other CPFs is that we are at the forefront of combating domestic violence. When we speak of domestic violence, one would think of the physical abuse of women, however, when a single mother doesn’t receive child maintenance from the father it also becomes abuse.
“Gender-based violence includes the physical, emotional, psychological and financial abuse that women go through,” said Madikgetla.
He said they make it a point that they assist and guide women who want to file for maintenance.
“We don’t only come to the office when we have meetings but we are here daily to attend to issues,” he said.
The Daveyton CPF executive committee consists of 10 members working within the station’s four sectors and 250 community patrollers or volunteers.
“We don’t volunteer to win awards but we do what we do because of love and passion. The award that we’ve received serves as a moral booster. It also shows that someone is recognising the volunteering work that we do,” said Madikgetla.
