Letter to the Editor: Pets are not toys

Jackie Smith, Airfield, writes:

I am appealing to all parents out there to not get their child a puppy or kitten or bunny or any other animal for Christmas.

Animals are not toys to be played with and tossed aside when you get bored.

Look at the influx of unwanted animals into the SPCAs. There are even people who tell the SPCA they don’t want their pet any longer because they now have a new puppy. Shame on you!

People like this are bound to instil no responsibility about pet ownership in their children either.

If you have small children and animals, please make sure they are treating the animals properly and don’t let them treat these pets as toys.

There is nothing cute about a puppy or kitten under the Christmas tree.
