Aspirant Daveyton youngsters pursue their dreams

In their efforts to create a better space for young people, they hope to open an Arts Academy in Cloverdene in the future.

Two youngsters from Chief Albert Luthuli in Daveyton will feature as extras in an upcoming local drama series, Shaka iLembe, which is set to air in 2023.

Produced by BOMB Productions, the series will tell the story of the making of the iconic African king, with iterations from his early childhood through to adulthood.

Yandisile Gqibazonke (18) and Tebogo Moasheti (18) rubbed shoulders with famous actors, including Nomzamo Mbatha, Lemohang Tsipa, Mondli Makhoba, Wiseman Mncube and many more during the filming of the series in Bergville, Kwa-Zulu Natal last month.

Yandisile, a Grade 10 learner at Chief Albert Luthuli Secondary School, said his love for acting has made it easy for him to juggle school work and acting gigs.

His friend Tebogo, who matriculated last year, has taken a gap year to focus on making his name known in the music and film industry.

The aspiring actors hope to open an arts academy in Cloverdene to keep youngsters in Daveyton busy.

“There is talent in Daveyton but due to the lack of resources, young people get themselves involved in criminal activities and substance abuse,” said the youngsters.
