Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) continue with routine operations to curb crime during the festive season.
From December 15 to 18 members arrested two suspects and recovered six vehicles and a firearm.
Arrest
• On December 15, members received information that a silver Toyota Verso, linked to a robbery and murder in Boksburg in September, had been traced to a shopping centre in Lurie Road, Putfontein.
One suspect was arrested.
• At 22:30 members once again followed up on information of a man being in possession of stolen goods, in Olivia Road, Boksburg.
The stolen items, air pods and a smartwatch, were identified by the complainant and the suspect was arrested.
Recovered firearm
On December 18, members responded to a call from a security company operating in a boomed area, claiming that a 9mm Glock pistol was recovered in a bush on the corner of Sunny Street and North Rand Road.
The firearm was recovered after it was allegedly thrown into the nearby bush following a fight between unknown persons.
Investigations are continuing.
Abandoned vehicles
Four abandoned vehicles have been recovered.
The vehicles, which all had been reported as hijacked, were found in Moedi Section, Thembisa, Ellemdeen Street, Actonville, Ivory Park Ext 15 and Kingsway informal settlement.
A white Mazda Etude wanted in connection with a hit-and-run from 2012 was recovered abandoned on R554 near Rondebult Road.
