Police clamp down on crime in the region
129 suspects were arrested for contact crimes, 54 for other serious crimes, 24 for GBV and 10 for property crimes.
A total of 219 suspects were nabbed during various Okae Molao Operations on January 11 and 12.
According to Ekurhuleni District communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, among the suspects were 129 arrested for contact crimes, 54 for other serious crimes, 24 for gender-based violence offences and 10 for property crimes.
On January 12, district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole, joined by senior officials and law enforcement officers, led several operations in Benoni where, among others, 10 liquor outlets were closed and 11 illegal immigrants were arrested.

Furthermore, the social crime prevention unit also visited several schools to check on the safety of learners. No incidents were reported.
“I would like to thank members of the SAPS and other law enforcement for making an impact and ensuring our presence is felt by criminals in the district,” said Sithole.
