Despite the rain, the members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) hit the streets, arresting 11 suspects and recovering seven vehicles.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 53, will soon appear in court.
Possession of drugs
Three suspects were arrested in Rabie Ridge, Ivory Park and Etwatwa. Mandrax and crystal meth were seized.
Assault
A suspect was arrested in the Lindelani informal settlement on charges of assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm.
According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the spokesperson for the unit, patrolling members were approached by the victim.
“The victim was able to identify the assailant, who was arrested on the scene,” he said.
Theft
On February 8, an officer from the Sedibeng Flying Squad was in a high-speed pursuit on the N12 of a white Toyota Corolla.
According to Giblin, the officer had attended a workshop at the unit in Northmead and was returning to his post when he noticed the vehicle driving at high speed, closely followed by a Toyota Hilux belonging to a security company.
“The officer jumped into action, pursuing the vehicle and radioing for assistance from BFS,” said Giblin.
“In an attempt to flee, the driver of the Corolla started driving recklessly, pushing past other motorists. In a quick turn of events, the driver turned on the Rietfontein Road off-ramp, subsequently losing control, causing the vehicle to roll.”
The suspects tried to escape through the rear window but were arrested.
The suspects were allegedly being chased from Tom Jones Road after stealing a cellphone.
“Members of the security company and our colleague from Sedibeng are commended for their swift action.”
Arrest
• On February 9, three men were arrested at Lakeside Mall after the grey Nissan Micra they travelled in was flagged.
The vehicle was wanted in connection with a robbery committed in Midrand in January.
Two of the suspects were identified and detained by the investigation officer of the Midrand SAPS. The third suspect was released.
• A man was arrested on Elizabeth Road, Boksburg North, on charges of being in possession of a stolen vehicle. A white Corsa utility was impounded.

The vehicles were reported as hijacked or stolen in Kwa-Thema, Brakpan, Devon, Sebenza and Norkem Park.
The vehicles included a Toyota Quantum, a Toyota Etios, a Toyota Avanza, a Hyundai Creta and a VW Polo.
