RRS nab 130 suspects

Units continue to record successes through concentrated operations.

Members of the SAPS Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RRS) closed the net on 130 criminals during routine operations in only seven days.

From February 10 to 16, units comprising members of the flying squad, K9 units and highway patrol recovered 49 motor vehicles, as well as four firearms.

Various concentrated operations were conducted, including vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols.

“Through this operation, 73 wanted suspects were arrested on charges of murder, assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, rape, shoplifting, theft, possession of stolen property, robbery, housebreaking, kidnapping and malicious property damage,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS).

“Vehicles reported as stolen or hijacked were recovered, with 11 arrests made for having these vehicles. Four suspects were also arrested for possessing unlicensed firearms.”

Further, 42 arrests for being in possession of and dealing with drugs were made. Heroine, dagga, Mandrax, crystal meth and cocaine were confiscated during the operation.
