UPDATE: Pensioner with dementia still missing

The family is calling on anyone with information about Richard Faku’s whereabouts to contact them on 076 411 6802 or email fakuthembi@gmail.com

The family of Richard Jabulani Faku, who went missing on Christmas Eve in Daveyton, is desperately pleading with the public to assist them with any information that could lead to locating him.

The 74-year-old, who has dementia, left home at about 16:00, saying he was going to his twin sister, who lives a few streets away, but never returned.

When he left home he was wearing a white shirt with multi-coloured stripes, white shorts, and brown sandals.

Faku’s daughter, Thembisile, said that for the past two months, they have waited in anticipation of his safe return home.

“With the help of police, we have followed up on leads, but they’ve all been unsuccessful. Not a day goes by without me thinking about him.

“I think about where he might be, what he is eating or doing. Since his disappearance, my world has been turned upside down. I am not coping,” she said.

Thembisile previously told City Times that she was notified by the Barcelona community on December 28 that her father was seen in the area and was picked up by the the Etwatwa police.

“When I arrived at the police station, to my shock my father was not there. They told me he was released because he was drunk.

“This puzzled me because my father doesn’t drink. Nothing made sense. Considering his mental state, they shouldn’t have released him,” said Thembisile.

A missing person’s case is open at the Daveyton Police Station. The investigations continue.

Anyone with information about Richard Faku’s whereabouts should contact the family on 076 411 6802 or email fakuthembi@gmail.com.
