Flying squad arrest six during routine blitz
Investigations into all the cases are continuing.
Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) once again proved that crime does not pay.
During routine operations, conducted from March 2 to 7, members nabbed six suspects on various charges including possession of drugs and suspected stolen goods.
Possession of drugs
• On March 3 at 04:45, members of the unit pulled a blue Lexus over during a routine stop-and-search operation.
Conducting a search of the vehicle, on the R25 near Erwat, officers found eight bags of dagga, weighing 15kg. The driver was arrested and charged.
• Three other people were arrested in separate incidents in Ext 6 and 15 in Ivory Park. Crystal meth, mandrax and heroin were seized.
Possession of suspected stolen goods
While conducting patrols on the N12 near the Etwatwa off-ramp, on March 3, BFS officers pulled over a Hyundai H100 that was transporting firewood.
“The driver of the vehicle was arrested after members discovered suspected stolen copper cables hidden under the wood,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.
“A total of 283kg of copper was confiscated.”
Common robbery
A man was arrested in Esselen Street, Daveyton.
The suspect was sought in connection with a case of common robbery, reported in Lyttelton. Upon his arrest, officers recovered R2300 in cash.
Abandoned vehicles
Three abandoned vehicles were recovered.
• A white Toyota Corolla was found. It was reported as stolen in Benoni.
• A white Mitsubishi Fuso truck was recovered in Spartan Road, Kempton Park. It was reported as hijacked in Rustenburg.
• A silver Ford Ranger was found in Difateng Section, Tembisa. It was reported as hijacked in Bedfordview.
