Alleged kidnappers arrested

The suspects were identified by the victim shortly after he was found .

Four men, aged between 23 and 54, were arrested on charges of kidnapping and extortion, on March 10.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad, officers were deployed to a filling station on Snake Road, to provide backup to the officer investigating the case.

The 34-year-old victim, a foreign national was allegedly taken from the corners of Swan and Bedford streets in Benoni CBD, at 09:45 on March 9.

“At 20:30, the officers arrived at a designated location where the victim was found,” said Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni SAPS.

“The victim immediately identified a charcoal Toyota Condor about to exit the filling station as the vehicle used by the suspects. Officers responded, and the suspects were arrested.”

Money and eight cellphones were confiscated and booked in as evidence. The vehicle was impounded.

Sekele further confirmed that money and a vehicle were exchanged for the release of the victim. The vehicle will be recovered.

The suspects briefly appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court, on March 13 and was remanded in custody as investigations continue
