SAPS Rapid Response Services nab 97

Operations of this nature will continue in an effort to combat crime.

Concentrated routine operations conducted by the SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS) again yielded successes throughout the province.

Comprised of the Flying Squad, K9 Units and the Highway Patrol, members arrested 97 suspects and recovered 44 vehicles and six firearms.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), 42 arrests were made for serious crimes, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, fraud, bribery, domestic violence, common robbery, being in possession of counterfeit money, housebreaking, driving under the influence, the contravention of protection orders, being in the country illegally and malicious damage to property.

“Members further recovered 44 hijacked and stolen vehicles that led to the arrest of 25 suspects,” said Giblin.

“Six unlicensed firearms were also recovered with accompanying arrests.”

A further 24 arrests were made in separate incidents for being in possession of or dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, Mandrax, crystal meth and cocaine were confiscated.
