Tseke Tladi leads the way in blooming flower business

Former Crystal Park resident Tseke Tladi is slowly making his mark in the retail industry.
The 26-year-old who works at Freshmark’s Flower Co. packhouse in Johannesburg leads a team of 27 members, supplying flowers to well-known retailer stores nationwide.
They ensure the quality of flower bouquets which are sent to the biggest supermarkets across the country exceeds customer expectations.
Tladi lived in Crystal Park for 24 years before moving to Johannesburg in 2022 to be closer to work.
He attended Crystal Park Primary and matriculated at Wordsworth High School in 2015.
The 26-year-old then proceeded to the University of Free State to study BSc degree in agriculture.
“I joined Freshmark as a trainee manager and in 2022 I was promoted to production manager. My training helped me to better understand the value chain and how flowers go from farms to customers.
“There are many aspects to it, which make my job exciting. From flower auctions to designing bouquets, production and making sure all our flowers arrive fresh in stores every time,” he said.
Established in August 2019, Flower Co. is a department within Freshmark, the Shoprite Group’s procurement and distribution arm for fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Since the department was established, the retailer’s flower sales have grown by over 30% year-on-year.
About 95% of the supermarket chain’s flowers are now produced at these two facilities, which also supply the Group’s stores in Namibia, Botswana and Angola.
