The importance of reporting crime
Information sharing is vital to combat crime and bring criminals to book.
The Benoni Sector Two CPF members appeal to residents and business owners to report all forms of crime as and when they occur.
According to the sector’s Stephan Lombard, the information in case dockets enables members of the Visible Policing Unit (VISPOL) to beef up operations and patrols in areas where crime trends are detected.
Vital information is shared with the stakeholders, such as the CPF and local security companies.
“No matter how minor or insignificant a crime may seem to the victim, it should immediately be reported to the police,” said Lombard.
“Clear, concise and timeous reports can assist the police in not only increasing visibility in the affected area but help to establish vital information, such as modus operandi, times of activity and possible future targets.”
He said that physical evidence, such as fingerprints or available CCTV footage, could help to identify the suspects and possibly link them to other crimes.
“Evidence such as this is crucial in compiling comprehensive case dockets which, in turn, will help prosecutors strengthen their cases against criminals,” he said.
“In the fight against crime, we all have a role to play in ensuring that criminals are brought to book and sentenced accordingly.”
You can report crimes and criminal activities to CrimeStop on 08600 10111, your nearest police station or use the MySAPS app.
All information can be given anonymously.
