Help make local athlete’s dream come true

“I face a financial hurdle that threatens to hold me back from this life-changing experience."

Local pentathlete Dmitri Annandale is asking for help to be able to attend the International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) Laser Run World Championships in Britain, from August 19 to 21.

Annandale is part of the 46 athletes selected by the South African Modern Pentathlon Association (SAMPA) to represent the country in the games which will take place in the city of Bath.

The South Africans will try to emulate the women’s and men’s teams that claimed gold medals in 2017 in the relay and teams events during that year’s games.

Dmitri Annandale is asking for financial assistance to be able to travel to the UIPM Laser Run World Championships in Britain.

“I humbly ask for your support,” he said.

“I face a financial hurdle that threatens to hold me back from this life-changing experience. The costs of travelling, accommodation and registration as well as training expenses are substantial. They exceed my current resources.”

Annandale said this would be a dream come true as he’s dedicated countless hours to getting in shape and perfecting his skills.

The laser run combines shooting and running. The competitors take part in four rounds of shooting from a 10m distance and have to hit the target five times before proceeding to four rounds of the 800m sprint.

Dmitri Annandale competes in a local event for Gauteng.

The Hoèrskool Oosterlig matriculant said participating in the championships would be a personal milestone and an opportunity to showcase his abilities.

“The world championships are the pinnacle of laser run competition. It’s an extraordinary opportunity for me to showcase my abilities, compete against the best in the world and learn from the greatest minds in the world.”

He fell in love in love with the sport from a young age and after good performances locally, he wants to establish a career internationally.

“I believe together we can make a difference. Your generosity, no matter the amount, will go a long way in helping me reach my goal.

“Your contribution will not only provide financial assistance but will be a source of motivation and encouragement as I embark on this incredible journey.”
