Arabian Date Nights will leave you rolling in the aisles this weekend

Arabian Date Nights is a pantomimesque comedy, which promises many laughs.

The Benoryn Family Church in Struben Street, Rynfield, is set to erupt with laughter and fun this weekend as Protea Stage Productions presents its laugh-a-minute Arabian Date Nights.

Written and directed by cast member Donovan Margoczi, this comedic quest sees Aladdin and the Genie on a mission to find Aladdin a suitable princess – they find her but, let’s just say she’s not quite what they expected.

Donovan has been a member of Protea since 2023.

He has taken part in several productions, most recently Wednesday’s Secret: an Addams Family Musical, which he directed and starred in as Gomez Addams.

Arabian Date Nights is a pantomimesque comedy, which promises many laughs, fun upbeat songs, a wide variety of characters from all your favourite Disney movies (with a twist).

“It’s a show that will entertain the whole family,” Donovan said.

“The cast has been hard at work – on a very tight deadline – and are ready to entertain you and have you laughing and singing along to this unique show.

“No show is possible without the hard work from the team of committee members, choreographer, musical director, prop masters, producers and all the input (solicited and unsolicited) and dedication from the cast.”

Donovan is also part of the Protea Theatre Academy, where he teaches young and upcoming thespians, alongside Lynsay Jonker (founding member of the Academy and chairperson of Protea).

Protea Academy is also busy with rehearsals for its upcoming production of Shrek the Musical, directed by Donovan and produced by Lynsay, which will be on stage in late August.
